Martin Kibaba

Team leader/Executive Director

Martin Kibaba is team-leader/Executive Director of Rwenzori Media Development Foundation of Uganda (East Africa). Born to Ethnically Kenyan and Ugandan parents, Kibaba succeeded Dr. Kemba G. William who was at the helm of  the organization since its founding in 2009.

Kibaba has worked with a number of media houses in Uganda as reporter, editor and manager. These include the Daily Monitor, The Independent, Life fm, Forbes Communications and the famous tabloid ‘The Red Pepper’ of Pepper Publications limited.

​

An alumnus of the World Press Institute, the youthful journalist has a wealth of foreign media experience after spending a part of his professional life in the United States of America. While there, he worked and volunteered with top US newsrooms including the Star Tribune, Minnesota Public Radio, Vox news and The New York Times among others.

Kibaba has vast experience in war and conflict reporting having covered the LRA conflict in Northern Uganda, and hostilities in Dr. Congo, Sudan, Central African Republic, Syria and Lybia. He has previously coordinated and participated in a number of peace journalism trainings for media professionals across Africa and beyond. 

 

An award winning journalist, Kibaba has participated in a number of other valuable international trainings, and specializes in writing about politics and governance issues, peace and reconciliation, human rights, climate change and media dynamics. His passion for investigative reporting has seen the birth of the Portal center for Investigative Journalism. An initiative of RMDF, the center located in the city of Fort portal is dedicated to researching, reporting, and disseminating in-depth investigative reports for the purpose of contributing to a better informed public.

 

Martin Kibaba holds a master’s degree in journalism and Mass Communication from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul Minnesota, United States of America, a bachelor’s degree in community development from Makerere University, and countless certificates in different fields.

Martin Karugaba

Web developer/e-lerning specialist

Mr. Karugaba Martin is RMDF’s program manager Online and Training. He is a broadcasting and media development professional with a track record in media management, media literacy, administration and planning, as well as training. Pascal Arukwera

Production Editor

Mr. Pascal Arukwera is a peace journalism production editor (Sound and Online expert) and RMDF’s head of Media capacity building and Training.  He holds a BA in mass communication from Nkumba University. He is currently pursuing a masters degree in Rural Development at mountains of the moon university.

Kibaba holds an MA in Journalism and Mass Communication, a BA in community development, and has pursued further studies on media research and policy from Makerere University.    

Ngonzi L. Joan
 
Director of Programs

Ngonzi L. Joan is a recovering journalist and media trainer. She is the Director of Programs at Rwenzori Media Development Foundation and Advisory Consultant Uganda Peace and Justice Forum. The award winning broadcast journalist previously worked as Public Relations Officer at Mountains of the Moon University and communication specialist with Tooro Community Development Foundation. Joan holds a Post-Graduate Higher Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Pretoria, South Africa as well as a BA in Community Development from Makerere University.

Caroline Grace Magara
 
Director Research, Communication & Advocacy

Ms. Magara is an award-winning investigative journalist and a communication expert with extensive experience in media for development, media monitoring, project management, research and advocacy. She holds a postgraduate higher diploma in research and public policy, and a BA in Journalism and Mass communication from Ndejje University.

Mr. Nyamugabwa Gerald
 
Chief finance Officer/AC

Mr. Nyamugabwa Gerald is RMDF’s Chief finance Officer and Accountant. He has extensive experience in financial management, accounting functions and administration, with a background in auditing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business management from Makerere University Business School and is a certified public accountant.

Mr. Pascal Arukwera is a peace journalism production editor (Sound and Online expert) and RMDF’s head of Media capacity building and Training.  He holds a BA in mass communication from Nkumba University. He is currently pursuing an MA in Community Development at mountains of the moon university.

Stephen Nyakairu
 
Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Mr Stephen Nyakairu is an experienced researcher and manager (10+ years) working with civil society, think tanks on policy analysis, media trends and media consumption. He is a dedicated and results-driven Statistician with keen interest in research, media monitoring and evaluation. He holds a BA in Statistics from Uganda Pentecostal University.

Founded by journalists in 2009, Rwenzori Media Development Foundation (RMDF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening community media in rural Uganda. We focus on media development, improving access to information, and fostering transparency, accountability, and peacebuilding. Our goal is to promote and improve journalism in western Uganda.
